Part of the reason I originally hooked up on the characters on the new show (even though each incarnation is in character and throughout the run I played out my expectations as each iteration), was because these shows move a lot, even if they’re not in an identical way. Once you tackle this change from Clark to Batman, you have a high level of tension to jump out of and take risks with in the world that you love. It’s the opposite of the first season, in that you can do that with both familiar characters and new teams of heroes.

As part of it, every season and season-long version of Community spent a lot of time refitting it so that it seems like they’re breaking every tradition in the universe and keeping the continuity the same. However, the time has come to let these new Batman-level characters move forward year-by-year, and their decisions about what to do with themselves and the world will ultimately affect his and his team’s future.
